Mayor Moty said a full written report will be pre- pared prior to next Coancil meeting. .._ . . _ . . -_.j The Convention Committee of the Greater Redding Chamber of Commerce requests Council to engage architects to study feasi- bility of constructing $1, 800, 000 auditorium-convention hall com- , plex. . Dick Smart of the architectural firm of Smart & Clabaugh was questioned re the two initial phases proposed to be studied. Mr. Smart said these phases (a) schematic and (b) design development.: . will cover the same material that was included in the original study. ?3e stated the cost of $13, 628 is about 25°jo of the cost of the original study and said this is possible because much of the previous material is reusable. Mayor Moty asked if the $1, 800, 000 facility would be a complete, ready-to-operate facility, including parking lots, landscaping, fur- nishings (drapes and all carpeting), etc. Mr, Smart said he would be in a better position to answer that question by next Council meeting. 193 Councilman Doherty inquired as to the most essential difference betvveen the $2, 70(;'000 facility arid the $1, 800, 000'facility and was told the differencewould be basicallyin size. The Chamber Convention Committee is hopeful that a bond election can be set for November 16th and therefore'it is necessary to have every- thing prepared six vveeks previous to tlat date. CityAttorney Murphy advised Coancil they could, by minute order, authorize Mr. Smartto proceed with the work and instruct the City 'Attorney to prepare the necessary document. MOTION: Mad'e by Councilman IDenny, seconded by Councilman Doherty that Dick Smart be authorized to proceed with the two phasesof the auditorium-convention hall complex study as outlined in the letter of July 29th from the Greater Redding Chamber of Commerce, that Councilmen Chatfield and Denny will be Council Liaison, and the City A.ttorney be instructed to prepare the necessary-documerit.
