LEGISLATION - Councilmen's Salaries , City Attorney IVIurphy advised Council he. had received.a cammuni- , cation from the League of California Cities concerning an opinion rendered by the Legislative Counsel as ,to the effect of, the repeal j of former Section 36514 of the Government by Chapter 286, 1965 / j (A.. B. 734) upon salaries presently being paid to councilmen in general law cities in accordance with electorate approval. The opinion of that office is that such electorate approved salaries may continue to be paid but will become inoperative after the next general rnunicipalel'ection in.April , T:9E6. If this should occur, then, according to Legislative Counsel, no salary could be paid to councilmen unless there was in effect an ordinance adopted by the council providing for the payment of the salary prescribed in new Section 36514. 6 Mr. Murphy said the League beliEves it wasnot the intent of .
