Federal, legislation (HR 7244, 5-1743, HR 10036, and 5-1744) pertaining ' to Federal gr�nts to cities. � ` � MOTION: Made by Councilman Denny, seconded by Councilman Chatfield authorizing the Mayor to send letters to appropriate officials if, after discussion with staff, it is deemed advisable. The Vote: Unanimous A.yes Redding Chamber of Commerce - Reader Board Mr. James Fox, President of the Redding Chamber of Commerce submitted the �recommendation of the Chamber A.dvertising Com- mittee that a �eader board, 26' in height and 20.'_. long, be erected ,iT-� on Highway 299 West to identify the Civic A.uditorium. It is esti- ��f� mated that the' cost will be $7500. Mr. Fox stressed that the City has considerable money invested in the A.uditorium, and a reader board would not only direct newcomers to the facility but would inform residents of the area of coming events. Messrs. Wanl�owski and Pyle, and Ms ! Freddie Papineau also spoke in favor of the reader board. , Planning Director Harris reviewed his rnemo to Council dated November 1, 1973, which recommends that additional directional signing of the Civic Auditorium and Turtle Bay be installed on the 165 Freeway, and that the Chamber investigate methods of ad- vertising events at the A.uditorium other than a reader board. Mr. Harris advised Council that staff has contacted the State Department of Transportation regarding additional signing on the Freeway. He noted that a representative of the State De- partment of Transportation and the City Traffic Engineer have expressed concern with the safety aspect of.the pr.oposed reader board. After discussion of the matter, 'staff was requested to work with the Chamber of Commerce in d'eveloping a complete pro- gram to advertise the A.uditorium, with a proposed budget to be given to Council at its budget sessions in 1974. Shasta County Board of Supervisors A. letter of comxnendation was received from the Shasta County Board of Supervisors for the excellent accommodations provided ��.�� � � the County Supervisors A.ssociation of California at the Civic A.uditorium. The Board had special praise for.A.uditorium Director "Moe!' Finn.
