City A.ttorney Murphy submitted Ordinance No.. 1141 , prohibiting operation
of motor vehicles on unpaved areas in public parks, for Council considera-
tion.
as
Archer Pugh, Chairman of the Parks and Recreatiori.Commis sion, spoke
in favor of this ordinance. He said the primary area of concern is the
Turtle Bay A.rea, but there are other areas the Commission is interested
in keeping natural. He noted that the area designated as a Bird Sanctuary
is losing most of its natural cover because of the many roads and trails
being made by motorized vehicles , and said this will result in the loss of
birds and other wildlife in the area.
Vice Mayor Chatfield eressed the belief that access to fishing areas
should be maintained and felt that the proposed ordinance was too
stringent. He pointed out that older people often fish in that area and
it might prove a hardship if driving in were prohibited..
Councilman Anderson offered Ordinarice No. 1141 for first reading, an
ordinance of the City Council of the City of Redding amending Chapter 19
