Re: 4.12(a)--Resolutions re November 5,2024, General Municipal Election Page 2
Traditionally, the City has contracted with the County of Shasta to provide consolidated election
services. Therefore, pursuant to the State of California Elections Code Section 10403, the City
must adopt a resolution requesting that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Shasta to
consolidate the elections.
The nomination period begins Monday, July 15, 2024, and closes at 5:00 p.m., Friday, August 9,
2024. If an incumbent does not file nomination papers by the close of the nomination period, the
filing deadline will be extended to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, only for non-
incumbent candidates for that office.
In accordance with Elections Code Section 1330'7, and to ensure candidates are aware of the
City's standards relative to the nomination process, staff recommends that the Council adopt a
resolution providing standards for candidates for elective office. The resolution includes the
following:
• Candidate statement requirements, as well as cost; and
• Ballot designation regulations.

This is not a project defined under the California Environmental Quality Act, and no further
action is required.
