Recommendation Authorize the Mayor to sign a letter ta the California Energy Commission indicating the City of Redding's support of local control regarding the proposed Fountain Wind Project in Shasta County. Fiscal Impact There is no fiscal impacf with this action. Alternatzve Action The City Council(Council) could choose to not send the letter. Background/Analysis On April 16,2024, staff presented a letter to the Council to authorize the Mayor ta sign a letter in support of Shasta County in its opposition of the proposed Fountain Wind Project. That letter was denied by the CounciL The Council authorized the Mayor to work with staff to modify the existing letter in support of local control and to show support for Shasta County's right to make a decision without stating a position regarding the Fountain Wind Project. Environmental Review This is not a project defined under the California Enviranmental Quality Act, and no further action is required. The State of California is vast in size and boasts a beautiful and varying geography,where local legislators have the opportunity to protect their landscape and also determine its best uses based on the majorty of the citizenry's input. The local elected legislative bodies are the appropriate units of government that should be responsible for approving and denying local projects. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
