A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
SUPPORTING CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR ARNOLD SCHW ARZENEGGER'S
"VISION FOR CALIFORNIA-tO STEPS TOWARD HEALTHY LIVING"
WHEREAS, unhealthy food choices and inadequate physical activity are proven to be detrimental to
an individual's overall health and increases the risk of developing chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer,
diabetes and obesity; and
WHEREAS, if California is to lose the 360 million pounds it has gained over the last decade as a direct
result of an unhealthy life style, bold action from individuals, families, businesses, community and government
leaders is necessary; and
WHEREAS, to that end, California Governor Schwarzenegger has developed the following ten-point
vision for a healthier California as an ambitious, forward-reaching guide challenging all of us to make California
a national model for healthy living:
Healthy foods and beverages will be accessible,
affordable, and promoted in grocery stores.
Healthy foods and beverages will be accessible
affordable, and promoted in restaurants and
entertainment venues.
Healthy eating and physical activities will be promoted
throughout all health service systems.
Employees will have access to healthy eating and
physical activity options.
Californians will understand the importance of healthy
eating and physical activity, and they will make heathier
choices based on that understanding.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby supports
Governor Schwarzenegger's "Vision for California-l 0 Steps Toward Healthy Living" campaign and encourages
all citizens to follow this plan in pursuit of a healthier life style.

Every day, every school-age child will participate in ·
physical activities.
Soda and unhealthy foods will not be available in .
schools.
Only healthy foods will be marketed to children age
12 and under.
Buildings and communities, both new and existing,
will be designed to support physical activity, including ·
safe walking, stair climbing and bicycling.
Produce and other fresh, healthy food items will be ·
affordable and available in all neighborhoods.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was introduced and read at a regular meeting ofthe
City Council of the City of Redding on the 6th day of September, 2005, and was duly adopted at said meeting
by the following vote:
