RESOLUTION NO. 2005-44
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
PROCLAUflING MAY 5 AND MAY 6, 2005, AS
"CALIFORNIA }tEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAYS";
MAY 19, 2005, AS "SHASTA COUNTY PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAY";
AND MAY 15 THROUGH MAY 21,2005, AS "NATIONAL PEACE OFFICERS'
WEEK"
WHEREAS, May 5 and May 6,2005, have been designated by the California State Lehrislature
as California Peace Officers' Memorial Days; and
WHEREAS, the week of May 15 through May 21, 2005, has been designated "National Peace
Officers' Week" by both an Act of Congress and Presidential Proclamation; and
WHEREAS, in 2004, 154 officers were killed nationwide, with 13 California officers being
killed in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, the safety of our citizenry greatly depends on the services of the Redding Police
Department, the Shasta County Sheriffs Department, and the Anderson Police Department, as well as
the many county, state and federal agencies that make up the law enforcement community in Shasta
County;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby
proclaims May 5 and May 6,2005, as "California Peace Officers' Memorial Days"; Thursday, May 19,
2005, as "Shasta County Peace Officers Memorial Day"; and May 15 through 21, 2005, as "National
Police Officers' Memorial Week" in the City of Redding.
BE IT FURTHER RESO:L VED that the City Council urges residents and civic organizations
to salute this City's dedicated law enforcement professionals by attending the Shasta County Peace
Officers' Memorial, and directs that all City of Redding flags be flown at half-mast on Thursday, May
19, 2005, in honor of the police officers and fire fighters killed in the line of duty during 2004.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced, read and adopted at a
regular meeting of the City Council on the 5TH day of April 2005, by the following vote:
