HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2004-056 - Peace Officers Days ..- ~ e e RESOLUTION NO. 2004-56 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING PROCLAIMING MAY 6 AND MAY 7, 2004 AS "CALIFORNIA I)EACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAYS"; MAY 13,2004 AS "SHASTA COUNTY PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAY"; AND MAY 9 THROUGH MAY 15, 2004 AS "NATIONAL PEACE OFFICERS' WEEK" IN THE CITY OF REDDING. WHEREAS, May 6 and May 7, 2004 have been designated by the California State Legislature as California Peace Officers' Memorial Days; and WHEREAS, the week of May 9 through May 15, 2004, has been designated "N ational Peace Officers' Week" by both an Act of Congress and Presidential Proclamation; and WHEREAS, in 2003, 148 officers were killed nationwide, with 17 California officers being killed in the line of duty; and WHEREAS, the safety of our citizenry greatly depends on the services of the Redding Police Department, the Shasta County Sheriff's Department, and the Anderson Police Department, as well as the many county, state and federal agencies that make up the law enforcement community in Shasta County; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council ofthe City of Redding hereby proclaims May 6 and May 7, 2004, as "California Peace Officers' Memorial Days"; Thursday, May 13, 2004, as "Shasta County Peace Officers Memorial Day"; and May 9 through 15,2004, as "National Police Officers' Memorial Week" in the City of Redding. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urges residents and civic organizations to salute this City's dedicated law enforcement professionals by attending the Shasta County Peace Officers' Memorial, and directs that all City of Redding flags be flown at half-mast on Thursday, May 13, 2004, in honor of the police officers and fire fighters killed in the line of duty during 2003. a ~ V't ~ . e e I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced, read and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council on the 20th day of April, 2004, by the following vote: AYES: NOES: ABSENT: ABSTAIN: I ~ A ttl!~t; (.
