HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2004-054 - National Arson Awareness - e RESOLUTION NO. 2004-54 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING PROCLAIMING MAY 2 THRU MAY 8, 2004, AS NATIONAL ARSON AWARENESS WEEK WHEREAS, juvenile arson is a serious crime that affects all people and can only be stopped when citizens realize the physical and emotional damage suffered by arson victims; and WHEREAS, juvenile arson and youth-set fires have resulted in more than $1,415,250 of damage in the past five years in the City of Redding and cost the City over $254,140 in fire response; and WHEREAS, the price that America pays for youth-set fires is extreme and most of the lives lost are those of the very children setting the fires. In addition to the cost of damaged property, there is a cost to the community of the increasing resources needed to fight the problem; and WHEREAS, the support and promotion of National Arson Awareness Week will honor all that is best within humanity by focusing our collective efforts on a community solution, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the City Council of the City of Redding hereby proclaims May 2 thru May 8, 2004, to be Arson Awareness Week. BE IT FURTHER RESOL V1ED that the City Council pay special tribute to all fire and law enforcement agencies for their dedicated and tireless service.
