A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
OPPOSING A. B. 2757 , WHICH WOULD PROVIDE THAT UNSUITABLE
ADVERTISING STRUCTURES AND SIGNS MAY ONLY BE ELIMINATED
BY NEGOTIATED PURCHASE OR BY EMINENT DOMAIN .
WHEREAS , A.B . 2757 , which has been approved by the
Assembly Committee on Judiciary and referred to the Assembly Com-
mittee on Ways and Means , would limit sign abatement powers of
cities by providing that advertising structures and signs may
only be eliminated by negotiated purchase or eminent domain , and
WHEREAS , A.B. 2757 is strongly opposed by the League
of California Cities and by individual cities as seriously limit-
ing the ability of cities to eliminate unsuitable advertising
structures and signs , and
WHEREAS, if this bill is enacted, the costs and pro-
cedures required thereby will make it extremely difficult for the
City of Redding to implement sign regulations presently in effect
in this City ,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Redding deems it to be in the best interests of all
cities and their citizens that cities ' sign abatement powers not
be curtailed by this proposed legislation , and the City Council
vigorously opposes the enactment of A.B. 2757 .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed
to send copies of this Resolution to Assemblyman Stan Statham,
to members of the Assembly Committee on Ways and Means , and to
