HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso. 78-073 - Opposing A.B. 2757, Which Would Provide That Unsuitable Advertising Structures and Signs May Only Be Eliminated by Negotiated Purchase or by Eminent Domain RESOLUTION NO. 72-77> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING OPPOSING A. B. 2757 , WHICH WOULD PROVIDE THAT UNSUITABLE ADVERTISING STRUCTURES AND SIGNS MAY ONLY BE ELIMINATED BY NEGOTIATED PURCHASE OR BY EMINENT DOMAIN . WHEREAS , A.B . 2757 , which has been approved by the Assembly Committee on Judiciary and referred to the Assembly Com- mittee on Ways and Means , would limit sign abatement powers of cities by providing that advertising structures and signs may only be eliminated by negotiated purchase or eminent domain , and WHEREAS , A.B. 2757 is strongly opposed by the League of California Cities and by individual cities as seriously limit- ing the ability of cities to eliminate unsuitable advertising structures and signs , and WHEREAS, if this bill is enacted, the costs and pro- cedures required thereby will make it extremely difficult for the City of Redding to implement sign regulations presently in effect in this City , NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding deems it to be in the best interests of all cities and their citizens that cities ' sign abatement powers not be curtailed by this proposed legislation , and the City Council vigorously opposes the enactment of A.B. 2757 . BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed to send copies of this Resolution to Assemblyman Stan Statham, to members of the Assembly Committee on Ways and Means , and to Senator Ray Johnson. I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was introduced and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Redding on the 5th day of June , 1978 , and was duly adopted at said meeting by the following vote : AYES : COUNCILMEN: Fulton, Gard, Kirkpatrick, Pugh, and Demsher NOES : COUNCILMEN : None ABSENT: COUNCILMEN: None ATTEST: A .► / \l ONALD M.
