I544 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING OPPOSING A. B. 2224 , WHICH WOULD CONSOLIDATE GENERAL LAW CITY AND SCHOOL DISTRICT ELECTIONS AND PROVIDE FOR SUCH CONSOLIDATED ELECTIONS TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE COUNTY. WHEREAS, A. B. 2224 , as amended, provides for consolida- tion of school district elections with general law city elections , and provides for such elections to be conducted by the county on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March in even-numbered years , with the county and the city to mutually agree upon alloca- tion of various duties for administration of the election , and WHEREAS , A.B. 2224 has passed the Assembly Committee on Elections and Reapportionment and will next be heard by the Assembly Committee on Revenue and Taxation , and WHEREAS , the County Election Department , the City Election Department, and the City Attorney have recommended that the City Council oppose this legislation , because it is felt that the consolidation of elections and division of election duties would not be in the best interests of the city or the county , NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding opposes the adoption of A. B. 2224 , because, based upon previous local experience, consolidated elections conducted by the county have proven more costly to the city, and because difficulty and confusion due to overlapping boundaries would be created for both the city and the county in coordinating efforts and keeping records . IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall send copies of this Resolution to Senator Ray Johnson and to Assembly- man Stan Statham. I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was introduced and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Redding on the 15th day of May , 1978 , and was duly adopted at said meeting by the following vote : AYES : COUNCILMEN: Fulton, Gard, Kirkpatrick, Pugh, and Demsher NOES : COUNCILMEN : None g ABSENT: COUNCILMEN : None -1- 4-- A - U--D-- ,e ALD M.
