& RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
APPROVING THE ACQUISITION OF APPROXIMATELY 18.7 ACRES
OF SACRAMENTO RIVER FRONTAGE FROM JACK HALPIN, BEN LEEP,
AND HENRY SAUNDERS, AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION BY THE
MAYOR OF THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO ACCOMPLISH SUCH
ACQUISITION.
WHEREAS, Jack Halpin, Be- Leep, and Henry Saunders have
offered to convey to the City of Redding, as a gift, all of their
right, title and interest in and to approximately 6.8 acres of land
fronting on the north side of the Sacramento River east of Market
Street, provided that the City purchase from them an additional
approximately 11.9 acres of land adjacent thereto on the river for
a price of $99,000.00, and
WHEREAS, the total property proposed to be acquired has
been appraised for the City by James Hull, MAI, and it was his
opinion on September 15, 1975, that the fair market value of the
land offered for sale was $7,000.00 per acre, and the fair market
value of the land to be given to the City was $2,250.00 per acre,
and
WHEREAS, since that time, the owners of said land have
expended the sum of $7,000.00 to widen and increase the height of
the levee thereon, as required by the Board of Reclamation, and
WHEREAS, the City staff and the Parks and Recreation
Commission have considered said offer and have strongly recommended
in favor of the acquisition of the subject land, and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems it to be in the best
interests of the City of Redding and its citizens to acquire said
land in accordance with the foregoing recommendations for a total
price of $99,000.00,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Redding as follows:
1. That the purchase of approximately 11.9 acres of
river frontage from Jack Halpin, Ben Leep, and Henry Saunders for
a total price of $99,000.00 is hereby approved. �+

2. That the gift of approximately 6.8 acres of adjacent

river frontage is also approved and accepted.

3. The Mayor is authorized to execute escrow instructions
for said acquisition for and on behalf of the City of Redding, which
provide in part that all escrow costs relating to said acquisition
shall be paid by the sellers, and to execute any and all additional
documents necessary to complete said acquisition.
4. In consideration of the sellers paying said escrow
costs, the Director of Public Works is authorized to perform the
necessary survey work on the subject property to establish parcel
sizes and locations.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was intro-
duced and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City
of Redding on the 6th day of December, 1976, and was duly adopted
at said meeting by the following vote:
