A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TFiE CITY OF REDDING EXPRESSING ITS SUPPORT FOR THE CONSOLIDATION BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OF A WEATHER AND METEOROLOGIST STATION TO BE LOCATED AT THE FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE CENTER AT REDDING MUNICIPAL AIRPORT. T+iHEREAS, the "City Council has been informed that the Federal Government is contemplating a, consolidation and location � � �ty�� , � at one station of � all weather functions for ldorthern California, and - ° , � � < � WHEREAS, the Forest Service fire weather station at Redding Municipal Airport is staffed by two meteorologists at all times and three in the summer, and the Red Bluff aviation and agricultural weather station is staffed by two technicians, with . plans tb increase this staff to a total of four ,technicians, and WHEREAS, the City of Reddinq has become the aviation hub of Northern California, with an F.A.A. certified airport which has been upgraded recently with longer runways, all-weather capabilities, additional transient parking and taxiways, a new terminal, and a great deal more air tfaffic than the Red Bluff • airport has, and ' WHEREAS, it has been proposed that the technicians from the Red Bluff weather station should be relocated to the Forest Service station at Redding Municipal Airport, consolidating their operations with those here, so that a complete weather station will be available here to serve all of 'Northern California, at a lesser cost td the Government, and � WHEREAS, the City Council has considered all of the fore- � going, and deems this consolidation of all weather functions at � Redding Municipal Airport to be in the best interests of the City � 1 -1- yl� �- ` �� ( 1 .. " � ' ' . � / � . �. , . . v �; and its citizens, and, in fact, Northern Cali.fornia aviation in general, � NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of RedEling hereby expresses its strong support for the consolidation by the Federal Government of a complete weather , arid meteorologist station to be located at the Federal Fire Ser- vice Center at Redding Municipal Airport. • , BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed to send copies of this Resolution to Congressman Eugene Chappie, Senator Alan Cranston, Senator S. I . Hayakawa, and Mr. H.H. Bedke of 'the U. S. Department of Commerce National Weather Service.
