HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso. 1981 - 140 - Pertaining to amendment to City policy concerning group insurance for regular, probationary, and part-time regular employees not covered by a memorandum of understandingark RESOLUTION NO. �/-/yO A7 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF-REDDING, PERTAINING'TO AN AMENDPIENT TO CITY POLICY CONCERNING GROUP INSURANCE FOR REGULAR, PROBATIONARY, AND PART-TIME REGULAR EMPLOYEES NOT COVERED BY A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING. WHEREAS, the City of Redding's existing policy on Group Insurance for regular, probationary, and part=timeregular employees not covered by a Memorandum of Understanding was adopted by Resolu- tion No. 78-159 which has now been rescinded, and WHEREAS, City staff has recommended a new policy on Group Insurance for such employees, as set forth in the attached "Exhibit A", incorporated herein by reference, and WHEREAS, the City Council deems it in the best interests of the.City of Redding to adopt such recommendations, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT.RESOLVED`that the City Council:of the City of Redding,hereby,.adopts a policy on Group Insurance for regular,' probationary --.and..par.t:=.ti.me regular employees not covered by a Memorandum of, Understanding, as set :forth in "Exhibit A", attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference,.effective on July' 5, 1981. PUGH� _ Mayor of t4ig-'City of Redding m a ;D CL I< co rn 00 N 0 co 0 . 0 GROUP INSURANCE Except for those employees covered by the provisions of a Memorandum of Understanding, all regular employees, probationary employees, and part- time regular employees are eligible to participate in a group insurance benefit program presently provided by. California -Western States Life Insurance Company, effective the first day of the month following completion of one (1) month's employment except for long term disability insurance which shall be effective upon the first day of the month following completion of one (1) year's employment. The City shall pay the full cost of the program for both employees and dependents. As soon as appropriate and practicable but no later than January 1, 1982, the City will remarket the group insurance program and consider both insured as well as self-insured funding of the benefits. The benefits shall be substantially equal to the present benefits except that: 1) the medical benefits shall be simplified, and 2) the employee life insurance shall be increased to twice the annual salary. The highlights of the benefits after remarketing shall be: (1) Life Insurance: Twice annual salary for employee $3000 for employee's dependents. (2) Health Benefits: $100 deductible per person per year except for accidents which shall have none; 801, payable for first $5000 of eligible charges, except for hospital charges which are 100% payable; 100% thereafter up to one million dollars lifetime limit; professional fees based upon U.C.R.; normal typical exclusions and limitations. (3) Dental Benefits: No deductible and 100% of U.C.R. for prevention; $25 deductible and 80% of U.C.R. up to $1500 per person per year for all other eligible charges. (4) Long Term Disability: After six (6) months 60% of employee's salary integrated with all other income benefits payable to age 65. The City will pay fifty percent (50°x) of the group medical insurance program premium for each retiree and dependents, if any, presently enrolled and for each retiree in the future who goes directly from active status to retirement and continues the group medical insurance without a break in coverage. Payments by the City will be discontinued upon the death of the retiree or upon termination of group medical insurance coverage. The City will not contribute payments on behalf of any retiree except as set forth above. Following the death of a retiree the surviving spouse, if any, may continue the insurance at their own expense until becoming eligible for participation in any other group insurance program.
