A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
URGING FAVORABLE CONSIDERATION OF H.R. 3053 IN SUPPORT
OF DOWNHILL SKIING ON MT. SHASTA.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Redding has
previously expressed its support for the continuation of downhill
skiing on Mt. Shasta, by the adoption of Resolution No. 78-30 on
March 6, 1978, and Resolution No. 78-135 on August 7, 1978, and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to continue to encourage
the resumption of downhill skiing on Mt. Shasta, both for its
recreational value and for its economic benefit to Redding and the
Northern California counties, and
WHEREAS, it appears that legislation by Congress is neces-
sary for the U. S. Forest Service to continue site evaluation and
selection for possible downhill skiing facilities,' and that H.R.
3053, introduced by Congressman Eugene Chappie and now scheduled
for hearing by the House Public Lands Subcommittee, would accomplish
this,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT, RESOLVED that the Redding City
Council again expresses its strong support for legislation which
will enable the re-establishment of downhill skiing on Mt. Shasta,
and the Council specifically urges favorable consideration of
H.R. 3053.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed
to forward copies of this Resolution to Congressman Chappie, to
Senators Alan Cranston and S.I. Iiayakawa, and to the House Public
Lands Subcommittee.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the for=_r,oing Resolution was
