A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY°COUNCIL-OF THE CITY OF.REDDING
SUPPORTING LEGISLATION TO INSTITUTE INCREASES IN GAS TAX
TO PROVIDE NEEDED REVENUES,TO,-FINANCE STREET AND HIGHWAY
MAINTENANCE AND IMPROVEMENTS. l
WHEREAS, a serious deficit exists in revenues available
for maintenance and improvement of streets and highways in the
State of California and local jurisdictions, and
WHEREAS, there is a bill before the Legislature, to wit,
S.B. 215, which, if,passed, will aid in alleviating this deficit
by providing a per capita increase,to cities as the result of an
increase in the gas tax and a share of state sales tax moneys
allocated by local transportation planning agencies, and
WHEREAS, S.B. 215 has been endorsed by the League of
California Cities, and has passed the Senate Transportation Com-
mittee, and is now scheduled to be heard in the Senate Finance
Committee,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Redding supports legislation to institute increases
in gas tax to provide needed revenues for maintenance and'improve-
ment of streets and highways in this State, and specifically urges
passage of S.B. 215.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED'that the City Clerk shall furnish
copies of this Resolution to Senator Ray Johnson and Assemblyman
Stan Statham, as well as to the Senate Finance Committee.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was intro-
duced and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the
City of Redding on the 20th day of April
