Fiscal Impact National Night Out requires staff time and a minor amount of expense for materials to support the event. This planned event is accounted for within the currently approved 2023-24 Biennial Budget. Alternative Action The City Council could choose to not approve the attached resolution and discourage the City of Redding’s (City) participation in National Night Out. Background/Analysis The National Association of Town Watch sponsors a nationwide crime prevention program called National Night Out, which is typically held annually on the first Tuesday in August, with an alternate date of the first Tuesday in October for those cities that experience extreme temperatures in August. After polling the Neighborhood Watch groups in the City, the majority opted for October due to the often triple-digit temperatures Redding experiences in August. This 40th annual National Night Out provides a unique opportunity for the City to join thousands of other communities across the country in promoting cooperative police/community crime prevention activities.
