HomeMy WebLinkAbout_5.1--Consider Mayor's appointments and reappointment to the Building Code CITY OF REDDING REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL Recommendation Approve Mayor’s recommendation to reappoint and appoint the following to the City of Redding Building Code Board of Appeals to serve four-year terms effective April 5, 2023, and ending December 31, 2026: (1) Reappoint Todd McEfee to serve an additional four-year term; (2) Appoint Andrew McCurdy to fill the vacancy by Ben Abrahamsen; (3) Appoint Rodrigo Menezes to fill the vacancy by Mike Dormer; (4) Appoint Ryan Russell to fill the vacancy by Bill Nagel; and (5) Appoint Jim Wright to fill the vacancy by Robert Wagner, Jr. Fiscal Impact There is no impact to the General Fund. Alternative Action The City Council could choose not to approve the Mayor’s recommendation. Background/Analysis According to the California Building Code (CBC) Section [A]113.3 (Qualifications), “the Board of Appeals shall consist of members who are qualified by experience and training to pass on matters pertaining to building construction and are not employees of the jurisdiction”. In light of these requirements set forth in the CBC, the City’s Building Official has reviewed the qualifications of the following applicants and determined they are eligible for appointment. Mr. McEfee has expressed interest in continuing to serve on the Building Code Board of Appeals, and, if approved, his new term will begin April 5, 2023, and end December 31, 2026. Board Member Ben Abrahamsen’s second full term expired on December 31, 2022, and he is not eligible for reappointment; therefore, one scheduled vacancy exists. Andrew McCurdy has expressed interest in serving on the Building Code Board of Appeals, and, if approved, his new term will begin April 5, 2023, and end December 31, 2026. Board Member Mike Dormer’s second full term expired on December 31, 2022, and he is not eligible for reappointment; therefore, one scheduled vacancy exists. Rodrigo Menezes has expressed interest in serving on the Building Code Board of Appeals, and, if approved, his new term will begin April 5, 2023, and end December 31, 2026. Board Member Bill Nagel’s term expired on December 31, 2022; therefore, one scheduled vacancy exists. Ryan Russell has expressed interest in serving on the Building Code Board of Appeals, and, if approved, his new term will begin April 5, 2023, and end December 31, 2026. Board Member Robert Wagner, Jr.’s second full term expired on December 31, 2022, and he is not eligible for reappointment; therefore, one scheduled vacancy exists. Jim Wright has expressed interest in serving on the Building Code Board of Appeals, and, if approved, his new term will begin April 5, 2023, and end December 31, 2026. Environmental Review This is not a project defined under the California Environmental Quality Act, and no further action is required.
