Background/Analysis The City of Redding (City) Volunteer Program began in 1988 in the Police Department and has expanded to serve all departments. This program assists City departments in identifying and creating meaningful volunteer opportunities for citizens to enhance their understanding of the local government and to assist departments in their operations to broaden and enhance services and programs provided by the City. For the calendar year 2022, the City’s Volunteer Program contributed over 31,124 hours of service to the City by volunteers. While it is difficult to determine an economic value on the time our volunteers have donated to the City, using the national estimated value of volunteer time provided by Independent Sector ($29.95 per hour), the value is over $932,000.
