HomeMy WebLinkAbout _ 5.1--Appointments and Re-Appointment to Planning Commission CITY OF REDDING REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL Recommendation Approve Mayor’s recommendation to: (1) appoint Marcus Partin to the Planning Commission to fill an unscheduled vacancy by Planning Commissioner Bert Meyer, with the term ending April 30, 2024; (2) appoint Greg Balkovek to serve a four-year term effective May 1, 2023, to April 30, 2027, to fill the vacancy made by Planning Commissioner Leon Benner; and (3) reappoint Luke Miner to serve an additional four-year term effective May 1, 2023, to April 30, 2027. Fiscal Impact There is no impact to the General Fund. Alternative Action The City Council could choose not to approve the Mayor’s recommendation. Background/Analysis Planning Commissioner Bert Meyer’s passing on January 24, 2023, created an unscheduled vacancy on the Planning Commission. In accordance with the Maddy Act, a notice declaring the vacancy was posted January 25, 2023. Marcus Partin has expressed interest in serving. If approved, his term will begin March 21, 2023, and end April 30, 2024. Planning Commissioner Leon Benner’s term expires on April 30, 2023, and does not wish to be reappointed; therefore, one scheduled vacancy exists. Greg Balkovek has expressed interest in serving on the Planning Commission, and, if approved, his new term will begin May 1, 2023, and end April 30, 2027. Planning Commissioner Luke Miner’s term expires on April 30, 2023; therefore, one scheduled vacancy exists. Mr. Miner has expressed interest in continuing to serve on the Planning Commission, and, if approved, his new term will begin May 1, 2023, and end April 30, 2027.
