Fiscal Impact There is no fiscal impact as this position was included in the 2021-23 Biennial Budget for the Development Services Department. Alternative Action The City Council could choose to not accept the status change and provide staff with additional direction. Background/Analysis In February 2022, the part-time Development Services Technician position was created to assist the Permit Center counter due to staffing shortages and an influx of work. At that time, the intent was to create a permanent position; however, the position was inadvertently created as a temporary position. Staff only recently became aware of this error and believe it is important change the status of this position to permanent because it has been, and continues to be, a huge asset to the Permit Center. This position performs a wide variety of paraprofessional, technical, and administrative tasks to support duties at the Permit Center. Job duties include: • Assisting the general public at the Permit Center by phone, email, or via the electronic permitting system regarding all permitting requirements, plan check and plan review process, permit filing procedures and processing, and permit status.
