CITY OF REDDING
REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL
Recommendation
Adopt Resolution declaring April 2023 as Fair Housing Month in the City of Redding.
Fiscal Impact
There is no fiscal impact.
Alternative Action
The City Council could decline to adopt a resolution declaring April as Fair Housing Month.
Background/Analysis
The City of Redding has historically recognized April as Fair Housing Month. The purpose of
Fair Housing month is to further educate tenants and landlords about their rights and
responsibilities with respect to discrimination based on race, color, ancestry, national origin,
religion, actual or perceived sexual orientation, physical disabilities (including AIDS), gender
identity, age, and marital/familial status. Informational brochures and letters with current
regulations are distributed annually to landlords and real estate agents. This information is also
available throughout the year to tenants through the Housing Division.
The City of Redding and Legal Services of Northern California, along with other Shasta Fair
Housing Alliance partners, sponsor an annual Fair Housing Workshop to educate the community
about fair housing laws. This year’s workshop is scheduled for April 27, 2023, and will be held
in the Redding City Council chambers. Presently, the meeting agenda and hours of the workshop
are being confirmed. Once available, the workshop details will be communicated to the
community.
