A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDZNG
URGING PASSAGE OF SENATE BILL SH13 AND HOUSE BILL HR3299 ,
PROVIDIIQG FOR THE EXCLUSION OF APPROXIMATELY 600 ACRES
ZCI THE GIDDY GIDDY GULCH AREA FROM THE MT. SHASTA
WILDERNESS PROPOSAL.
S9HEREAS, there is now pending before the Congress of
the United States a proposal which includes , among other things,
the establishment of an expanded wilderness area upon the slopes
of Mt. Shasta in Siskiyou County, California, and
wHEREAS, the former ski resort operator on Mt. Shasta,
whose facilities were destroyed by bad weather, after many months
of public hearings and study and public discussion, has proposed
to construct new facilities on the mountain , provided he can obtain
a location which includes a small portion (600 acres) of the pro-
posed expansion of the Mt. Shasta wilderness Area , and there are
thousands of California and Southern Oregon citizens to whom Mt.
Shasta is a preferred •location ,for a ski resort, due to the energy
shortage and other transportation and time factors , and
�. WHEREAS , the construction of such a ski resort would be
a boost to tne 1oc.a1 economy of �Siskiyou and Shasta County,
NO�Q, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Redding , for the reasons set forth above , supports
Senate Bill 5813 and House Bill HR3299 , providing that the
expansion of the Mt. Shasta Wilderness Area proposed by the U. S.
Forest Service be modified to exclude approximately 600 acres
within the Giddy Giddy Gulch area, in order that a financially
viable and operationally safe ski resort may be built by the
former ski resort owner and operator. �
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be and she �

hereby is instructed to mail fortnwith to Senator S . I . Hayakawa �

Senator Alan Cranston , Congressman Harold T. "Bizz" Johnson , and
Secretary of Agriculture Robert Berglund, certified copies of this
' Resolution , so that it may be reaffirmed to our representatives in ,
Congress that the City supports the passage of these bills and
wishes the deletion of apProximately, 600 acres in the Giddy Giddy
Gulch area from the proposed expansion of the Mt . Shasta Wilderness
Area.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was intro-
duced and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City
of Redding on the 7th . day of May , 1979 , and was duly adopted at
said meeting by the following vote :
