Mr. King reviewed that on November 28, 1977, Council authorized the filing of an application to list the Old City Hall on the National Register of Historic Places in order to preserve the structure and to increase the City's chances of obtaining a grant for its restoration. One year later, the building was officially listed as a significant historic structure. Mr. King advised that the Planning staff n has investigated several grant sources and has concluded that the most sub- / stantial grant program for which the City is eligible is the matching Historic Preservation Grants-in-Aid Program administered by the State Department of Parks and Recreation. He said the maximum matching grant award is $50,000 and the application deadline for the next fiscal year is June 11, 1979. Mr. King noted that under this program, grant funds may be used for both archi- tectural services and building restoration.
