RESOLUTION NO. gY-/Ts
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
PERTAINING TO HOLIDAYS FOR REGULAR AND PROBATIONARY EMPLOY-
EES NOT COVERED BY THE PROVISIONS OF A MEMORANDUM OF UNDER-
STANDING OR NOT ASSIGNED TO A TWENTY FOUR HOUR SHIFT DUTY.
WHEREAS, holidays are presently covered by Resolution No.
81-136; and
WHEREAS, staff has recommended certain changes in the City' s
policies concerning holidays , as included in the attached Exhibit
"A" , incorporated herein by reference; and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems it in the best interests of o "ri
the City of Redding to adopt such recommendations; co J.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the rn
City of Redding as follows:

1 . Resolution No. 81-136 is hereby rescinded, effective
July 15 , 1984 , and shall be of no further force and effect. co
2 . The aforesaid Exhibit "A" is hereby approved roved as the
City of Redding' s policy pertaining to holidays, effective July
15 , 1984.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was intro-
duced and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the
City of Redding on the 20th day of August , 1984 , and
was duly adopted at said meeting by the following vote:

HOLIDAYS
1. Except for those employees who are covered by the provi-
sions of a Memorandum of Understanding, or who are assigned to
twenty-four (24) hour shifts, regular and probationary employees,
except as otherwise provided herein, shall be entitled to have the
following holidays off with pay :
(a) January 1st
(b) Lincoln Day
(c) The third Monday in February
(d) The last Monday in May
(e) July 4th
(f) First Monday in September
(g) Employee' s birthday
(h) Columbus Day
(i) Veterans Day
(j ) Thanksgiving
(k) Friday after Thanksgiving
(1) The last four (4) work hours before Christmas
(m) December 25th
If any of the foregoing holidays falls on a Sunday, the Monday follow-
ing shall be observed as the holiday, except by those employees who
are regularly scheduled to work on Sunday other than on an overtime
basis . Employees who are regularly scheduled to work on Sundays
shall observe such holidays on Sunday. If any of the foregoing holi-
days falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday shall be observed as
the holiday, except by those employees who are regularly scheduled to
work on Saturday other than on an overtime basis . Employees who are
regularly scheduled to work on Saturdays shall observe such holidays
on Saturday. If any of the foregoing holidays fall on any day from
Monday through Friday, inclusive, and that day is a regularly sche-
duled non-workday for an employee , such employee shall be entitled to
receive another workday off with pay, to be scheduled in the same
manner as vacation days are normally scheduled. Notwithstanding the
foregoing an employee may observe his birthday holiday on his birth-
day or anytime during the pay period in which the birthday occurs , or
the holiday may be deferred and scheduled as vacations are normally
scheduled. The holidays known as Lincoln Day, Columbus Day, and
Veterans Day shall be scheduled by employees and their supervisors in
the same manner as vacations are normally scheduled.

2. Notwithstanding the foregoing, employees may be scheduled
to work on holidays, in which event any such employee will , in addi-
tion to his holiday pay, he compensated therefor at the overtime
rate of pay for all time worked on such days . An employee may, how-
ever, at his option , elect to observe that holiday at another time,
to be scheduled in the same manner as vacation days are normally
scheduled, in which event , any such employee will only be compensated
for time worked on that day at the overtime rate of pay and shall not
receive holiday pay for such day.
3. If an employee is in anon-pay status on both workdays
immediately adjacent to the holiday , he shall not receive pay for the
holiday.
4. Part-time regular employees shall not observe the foregoing
holiday provisions , but shall accrue holiday pay on a prorated basis
at the rate of -forty-eight thousandths ( . 048) of an hour for each
regular hour worked or on paid leave.
