A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT APPLICATION TO THE
UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT
FOR PARTICIPATION IN PROJECT SELF-SUFFICIENCY.
WHEREAS , the United States Department of Housing and Urban
Development is encouraging local governments to participate in
Project Self-Sufficiency; and
WHEREAS, Project Self-Sufficiency would encourage communi-
ties to develop the means for integrating support services within
the community into a personal development program for single
parents to enable them to make the transition from welfare
dependency to productive employment; and
WHEREAS, participation would consist of local governments
developing and implementing programs to enable unemployed or
underemployed, very low income single parents with young children
to become economically self-sufficient through the cooperative
efforts of the public and private sectors; and
WHEREAS, the high unemployment and divorce rate in Shasta
County would make such a program in the City of Redding attrac-
tive;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Manager is
hereby authorized to file an application request to participate
in Project Self-Sufficiency with the Department of Housing and
Urban Development.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was intro-
duced and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the

was duly adopted at said meeting by the following vote :
