S" 1(o A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF AN APPLICATION WITH THE FOUNDATION FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE CABLE TELEVISION FOR A GRANT UNDER THE TERMS OF THE CABLE ACCESS EQUIPMENT RESOURCE PROJECT FOR THE ACQUISITION OF A VIDEO CAMERA AND PORTAPAK SYSTEM, AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SIGN SAID GRANT APPLICATION. WHEREAS, under the terms of the Cable Access Equipment Project, the Foundation for Community Service Cable Television has authorized the making of grants to public bodies to aid in financing the acquisition of video equipment to be used in support of developing local programs for broadcast on the public access channel; and WHEREAS, the project applied for under this program will begin a long term process which encourages the consistent deve- lopment and use of community access channels; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby: 1 . Approves the filing of a grant application for funding under the Cable Access Equipment Resource Project of the Founda- tion for Community Service Cable Television. 2. Certifies that the City understands the general provi- sions of the agreement and will provide matching resources for publicity and administrative costs. 3 . Authorizes the City Manager to execute and file an application on behalf of the City of Redding with the Foundation for Community Service Cable Television for a grant to acquire video equipment to be used in developing local programs. • • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City MAnager of the City of Redding is hereby authorized and directed to furnish such infor- mation as the Foundation for Community Service Cable Television may reasonably request in connection with the application herein authorized to be filed and that he is authorized to accept any offer of grant which may be tendered. PROJECT SUMMARY The City of Redding Department of Planning and Community Development is requesting a grant for the acquisition of a video camera and portapak system to be used in support of developing local programs for broadcast on the public access channel . The equipment will provide a technical resource for qualified groups and agencies interested in producing community access presentations. An important and frequent use will be the taping of informational presentations about municipal government and the local political process, with the intent of developing public awareness and participation. It is expected that the City will provide matching resources for publicity and administrative costs.
