A RES4LUTION QF THE CITY C(}UNCIL flF THE CITY OF REI}DING
I)ECLARING JULY 2022 AS PARKS AND RECREATION MONTH
WHEREAS parks and recreation programs are an integral part of communities throughout this
country, including in the City of Redding; and
WHEREAS parks and recreation are vitally important ta establishing and maintaining the quality
of life in communities, ensuring the health of all citizens, and contributing tc� the econamic and
environmental we11-being of a community and regian; and
�VHEREAS parks and recreation programs build healthy, active communities that aid in the
prevention of ehronic disease, provide therapeutic recreation services far those wha are rnentaliy
or physically disabled, and also improve the mental and emotional health of all citizens; and
WHEREAS parks and recreation programs inerease a cQmmunity's economic prosperity thraugh
increased �roperty values, expansion of the local tax base, increased tourism, the attraction and
retentian of businesses, and crime reduetion, and
WHEREAS parks and recreation areas are fundamental to the environmental well-being of the
community; and
WHEREAS parks and natural recreatian areas improve water quality, protect groundwater,
prevent flaoding, improve the quality of the air residents breathe, provide vegetative buffers to
development, and produce habitat for wildlife; and
WHEREAS parks and natural recreation areas ensure the ecalogical beauty of the cQmmunity and
pravide a place far children and adults to cannect with nature and recreate autdaors; and
WHEREAS the U.S. I-Iouse of Representatives has designated Ju1y as Parks and Recreation
Month; and
WHEREAS the City of Redding recognizes the benefits derived from parks and recreation
resources;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby
proclaims July 2022 as Parks and Recreation Month in the City of Redding. �
