WHEREAS, the City Council has previously adopted a budget for the fiscal year ending June 30 , 1988 ; and WHEREAS , such budget contained estimated relvenue and appropriations for said fiscal year; and WHEREAS , it has been determined by the Finance Director that certain supplemental appropriations must be approved at this time to balance the City' s accounts for said fiscal year. At the meeting of May 5 , 1987 , Council authorized an additional $5 ,000 for the project to provide for remodeling the existing restrooms to accommodate the handicapped. The $5 , 000 amount was inadvertently omitted from the FY 87/88 budget and needs to be added to the project. Although the basic shell of the classroom addition and the restroom remodeling could be constructed for the $45 , 000 , additional costs for cabinets and a partition, which are neccessary to effectively use the space for the intended purposes, has increased the construction cost for the project to $47 , 600 . Therefore, funds in addition to the $45 ,000 are also needed. The Parks and Recreation department has identified all additional $5, 000 from the Parks Development Fund which could be transferred to the MLK Classroom Project account. This would provide the required $2, 600 needed for construction, and would also provide $2 ,400 for inspection, contract administration, and other costs. The attached resolution would appropriate $5 , 000 from CDBG reserves and would appropriate $5,000 from the Parks Development Fund for the additional costs associated with the MLK Classroom project. Issues Should Council adopt the attached Resolution appropriating $10 ,000 in funds for the completion of the MLK Classroom Addition and Restroom remodeling? Alternatives and Implications of Alternatives 1 . Adopt the attached Resolution. This would allow the project to proceed according to schedule. 2 . Do not adopt the attached resolution. The project would need to be redesigned to accommodate the lower amount ($40000) in the budget. This would delay or may even cause the project to be can- celled. t 0. Conclusions and Recommendations That Council adopt the attached Resolution appropriating $10 ,000 in additional funds for the MLK Classroom Addition and Restrdom remodel- ing project.
