CITY OF REDDING
ITEM NO. 4-9-2 (a) REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL
MEETING DATE 05/19/87
APPROVED BY
DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR
DATE: May 12 , 1987
C B-050-100-000
FROM: Director of Finance
SUBJECT: Requesting Approval to Purchase
Airport Terminal Sign and Approve
Resolution for Supplemental
Appropriation
Background
Presently the Municipal Airport Terminal has one lighted sign next to
the arrival door of gate number one. This sign is approximately five
feet in diameter and contains the City of Redding seal. Arrival gate
number two has no sign and, therefore, to create an aesthetic balance
and also to provide arriving passengers information as to location,
it is desirable to purchase an additional sign for gate number two.
The estimated purchase price is $2 , 300 . 00 . There are no budgeted
funds available in the 1986/87 budget for this purchase.
Issues
Should the City purchase the sign for the Municipal Airport Terminal
gate number two?
Alternatives and Implications of Alternatives
1 . Council may elect not to approve the purchase recognizing that
gate number two will not identify the City of Redding as the point of
arrival to passengers.
2 . Direct staff to budget for this purchase in the 1987/88 budget.
3 . Approve the purchase during the fiscal year 1986/87 recognizing
that there are no budgeted funds available for this purchase.
Conclusions and Recommendations
The sign would indicate to arriving passengers that they are in the
Redding Municipal Airport. The Airports Director and I recommend
that Council approve the purchase of the airport terminal sign in the
estimated amount of $2 , 300 . 00 . Inasmuch as this purchase is
unbudgeted approval of a supplemental appropriation is required and a
resolution for that purpose is attached hereto.
