HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso. 1987 - 143 - Supporting may 1987 as "jusr say no"I - : - . 411 411 RESOLUTION NO. $7-/y� A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING SUPPORTING MAY 1987 AS "JUST SAY NO" MONTH, AND MAY 8 , 1987, AS "WALK AGAINST DRUGS" DAY. WHEREAS, the use of illicit drugs continues to be a major problem in the United States, Shasta County and the City of Redding; and WHEREAS, through the "Just Say No" Clubs, youth are learning how to say "No" to peer pressure; and WHEREAS, "Just Say No" Clubs throughout the United States will be participating in walks against drugs in May; and WHEREAS, Shasta County Chemical People has joined with other local agencies and school districts in proclaiming May as "Just Say No" Month; and WHEREAS, students, parents, and staff members of local schools have organized "Just Say No" Clubs; and WHEREAS, students need to be encouraged to say "No" to drugs and to deal more effectively with peer pressure; and WHEREAS, the Redding City Council wants to encourage students in the City of Redding to make a strong public commit- ment to remain drug free, and believes that such a commitment can be made more meaningful through participation in the "Walk Against Drugs" scheduled in Redding for May 8, 1987; NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the Redding City Council proclaims May 1987 as "Just Say No" Month, and Friday, N4 May 8 , 1987, as the day of the "Walk Against Drugs" in the City of Redding. I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was introduced and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Redding on the 5th day of May, 1987, and was duly adopted at said meeting by the following vote: AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: Carter, Fulton, Gard, Johannessen, & Dahl NOES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None ABSENT: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None ABSTAIN: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None so MIKE DAHL, Mayor City of Redding ATTEST: ETHEL A.
