A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
ESTABLISHING THE PROCEDURE FOR THE SELECTION OF COMMISSION
MEMBERS.
WHEREAS, the City of Redding has established by Ordinance
various commissions to advise the City Council regarding various
matters; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council to establish a
procedure by which commission vacancies and appointments will be
made aware to the public; and
WHEREAS , the procedure may be amended from time to time in
order to meet the requirements of the City Council;
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the following
procedure is adopted for the selection and appointment of
commission members:
A. Advertising.
1 . A notice shall be published in a newspaper of
general circulation once a week for four weeks
beginning 90 days in advance of any expiration
date of a term.
2. To the extent possible, notice shall be provided
via the television community access channel.
3 . Public announcements shall be provided to the
general press, video, and audio media.
4 . To the extent possible, information shall be
included in the Redding Reports as it appears in
the utility bills of the City of Redding.
B. Applications.
1 . Applications for appointment to a commission shall
be acquired from and returned to the Redding City �
Clerk. The City Clerk shall provide to each �'J
requesting party a brief summary of the duties of
the commission for which the applicant is
applying. 1

2. Applications will be received by the City Clerk up
to 45 days in advance of the date of expiration of
the term for which the applicant is applying.
3. Members of commissions who wish to be reappointed
shall submit an application to the City Clerk for
reappointment. Failure to submit such application
shall result in no consideration being given to
the non-filing commissioner.
C. Interview.
1 . The mayor shall review the applications and
conduct interviews of the applicants prior to
making a recommendation to the City Council. If
the applicant volume is large, the Mayor, at his
discretion, may set up a screening procedure to
present for the Mayor' s consideration a manageable
number of applicants. The screening procedure, if
used by the Mayor, shall utilize the Council
liaison person for the particular' commission.
D. Implementation.
1 . The above procedure shall be implemented by the
City Clerk' s office and administered by that
office.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was intro-
duced and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the
City of Redding on the 5th day of May , 1987 , and
was duly adopted at said meeting by the following vote:
