A RESOLUTIOl� OF THE REDD�NG CITY COUNCIL DECLARING
APRIL 29, 2022, AS COMMUNITY TR�� PLANTING DAY,
OTHERWISE KNOWN AS ARBOR DAY, AND RECOGNIZING TH�
TRE� CITY U.S.A. AND TR�E LINE U.S.A. UTILITY AWARDS
WH�REAS, in 1872 J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board af Agriculture that a
special day be set aside for the planting of trees; and
WH�REAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and
WHEI?,�AS, trees can reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cut heating
and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen, and provide habitat
for wildlife; and
WHCR�AS, Arbor Day was first observed with the planting of mare than one million trees in
Nebraska; and
WHEIZ�AS, trees are a renewable resource, giving us paper, wood to build our homes, fuel for
our fires, and countless other wood products and by-products; and
WHEREAS,trees in our city increase praperty values, enhance the economic vitality of business
areas, and beautify our community; and
WH�REAS,trees, wherever they are planted, are a source of joy and spiritual renewal; and
WH�REAS, the City of Redding has been recognized as a Tree City U.S.A. by the National
Arbor Day Foundation for the forty-frst consecutive year, and desires ta continue its tree-planting
activities; and
WHER�AS, the City of Redding has also been recognized as a Tree Line U.S.A. Utility by the
National Arbor Day Foundation for the twenty-eighth consecutive year, and desires to
continue its educational program abaut the energy conservatian benefits derived from trees;
NOW, THER�FORE,BE IT R�SOLVED that the City Council of th� City of Redding hereby:

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council encourages all citizens residing within
the city limits of the City of Redding to support efforts to protect our trees and woodlands,
suppart our City's Urban Forestry Program, and plant trees to gladden the hearts and promote the
well-being of present and future generations.
I HER�BY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced at a regular meeting af the
City Council of the City of Redding on the 19t�' day of April, 2022, and was duly adopted at said
meeting by the following vote:
