The Adjourned Regular Meeting of the Redding City Council was called to order at 5:15 p.m.

McGeorge.

CONTINUATION OF PROCESS TO FILL CITY COUNCIL VACANCY
(A-050-060)
Mayor Anderson stated that the purpose of this meeting is to begin the process of selecting
a replacement on the Redding City Council to replace David A. Kehoe, who was elected to
the Shasta County Board of Supervisors effective January 5, 1999. ' The appointed
replacement will serve through the end of Mr. Kehoe's term which ends April 11, 2000.
Mayor Anderson announced that each of the 21 applicants will be afforded five-minute
presentations to include their vision for the future of the City of Redding and why they seek
a position on the City Council. In deference to the Brown (Open Meeting) Act, Mayor
Anderson said the entire selection process will be conducted in open session; and at the
conclusion of the presentations, each Council Member will be asked to nominate two
applicants who will be invited back to tomorrow's Council meeting for further interviews and
consideration.
The City Council heard from the following 17 applicants in the order listed by random
selection: Russell Wade, Annabelle Beidleman, John Lawson, Chris Longhurst, James Chapin,
Willard "Gene" Farley, Frederick Weatherill, Dennis Ward, William Frost, Kym Chandler,
Michael Pohlmeyer, Beverly Wade, Ken Murray, Jeff Richart, Mary Leas Stegall, Rick
Bosetti, and David Johnson.
After a brief recess, Mayor Anderson complimented the applicants on the quality of their
presentations. For those who are not selected, he reminded them that there is a City Council
election in approximately 15 months (April 11, 2000).
Council Member Cibula thanked the applicants for coming and expressed how impressed he
was with the number of applicants, their energy, and excitement demonstrated. For him, it
was difficult to limit the finalists to two.
Council Members Kight and McGeorge echoed Council Member Cibula's remarks and
expressed their appreciation for the significant amount of time the applicants devoted to this
process and acknowledged the difficult decision facing Council.
Council Members submitted two names on a handwritten ballot to the City Clerk who then
announced the following finalists:
Council Member Cibula selected Mary Leas Stegall and James Chapin
Council Member Kight chose Michael Pohlmeyer and Frederick Weatherill
Council Member McGeorge selected Michael Pohlmeyer and Mary Leas Stegall
Mayor Anderson chose Michael Polhmeyer and Fred Weatherill
