HomeMy WebLinkAbout90_02_13.R 77 2/13/90 City Council, Adjourned Regular Meeting City Hall Conference Room Redding, California February 13, 1990 5:15 p.m. Mayor Carter called the Adjourned Regular Meeting of the City Council and Joint Meeting with the Alliance of Redding Museums to order with the following Council Members present: Buffum, Dahl, Fulton, Johannessen, and Carter. Also present were City Manager Christofferson, Assistant City Manager McMurry, City Attorney Hays, Director of Finance Downing, Tourism and Convention Director Gorman, Museum Director Foster, Senior Assistant Planner Hanson, Science Museum Director Howe, and members of the Alliance of Redding Museums. JOINT MEETING - Alliance of Redding Museums (ARM) (A-050-060-350 & C-070-250 & C-050-375 & C-050450 & C-050-450) Mayor Carter and Bill Evanhoe conveyed their introductory remarks. The following topics were discussed: selection of the ARM Project Coordinator; the proposed Memorandum of Understanding between ARM and the City of Redding; master planning, and the site selection process. General discussion was held. After discussion regarding the placement of the Art and Science Museums on the Turtle Bay site, Council Member Dahl offered the following motion. MOTION: Made by Council Member Dahl, seconded by Council Member Buffum, and based on Pete Dangermond's earlier comments that the Council offer policy direction to: 1. Undertake the master planning process for the total site; 2. Encourage the museums to participate in the planning process; 3. Locate some museums facilities on the Turtle Bay site as an anchor; 4. Address safety concerns relative to access in and out of the site; 5. Make provision for a roadway and bridge around the site: 6. Provide for Convention Center expansion and the potential for hotel facilities, and 7. Make provision for joint food, restroom, and other facilities on the Turtle Bay site. Mayor Carter suggested that this process by seasoned with input from Tourism and Convention Director Gorman and ARM Project Coordinator Larry Hobson. The Vote: Unanimous Ayes ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, at the hour of 6:50 p.m., Mayor Carter declared the meeting adjourned.
