HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - unsigned - 1987-12-22 City Council, Special Meeting Council Chambers Redding, California December 22, 1987 The Special Meeting of the City Council was called to order at 12 Noon by Mayor Dahl with the following Council Members present: Carter, Fulton, Gard, and Johannessen. Also present were City Manager Christofferson, Assistant City Manager McMurry, Planning and Community Development Director Perry, Director of Finance Downing, General Services Director Masingale, Assistant Director of General Services Kohn, and Deputy City Clerk Strohmayer. GIFT FOR PARK DEVELOPMENT (G-100 & P-050) Planning and Community Development Director Perry submitted to Council a letter from Lee W. Salter, representing Mrs. Leah F. McConnell, offering to provide funding for certain City projects listed below: 1. $20,000 for completion of the Sacramento Trail Bridge Cross ing; 2. $50,000 for the design, development, and implementation of the Mary Lake Park, specifically including the walking and joggingtrails; 3. $230,000 for soccer-field improvements; 4. $450,000 for natural park-arboretum, for walking, hiking, and equestrian use, without public access for motorizedvehicles; and 5. $450,000 for the development and building of structures to be leased at reduced rent to non-profit public- benefitorganizations, specifically including the United Way shouldthat organization choose to locate in this development. Therental value for the development should exclude a return basedon the capital investment from this grant. Mr. Perry noted that the above projects are all capital improvement activities intended to provide finished facilities to the community. Several of these projects are already underway, and this will allow the City to proceed faster than planned. Council Member Gard noted that Mrs. McConnell gave funds for the rehabilitation of Old City Hall. MOTION: Made by Council Member Gard, seconded by Council Member Carter, to accept Mrs. McConnell's offer to give the City 1.2 million dollars for projects as outlined above, and authorizing the Mayor to execute a letter of acknowledgement to Mrs. McConnell. The Vote: Unanimous Ayes Mr. Salter presented a check to Mayor Dahl in the amount of 1.2 million dollars. Mayor Dahl asked Mr. Salter to convey Council's deep appreciation to Mrs. McConnell for the generous gift which will have long-lasting impacts for the community. CLOSED SESSION (P-100-050) Mayor Dahl announced that pursuant to California Government Code Section 54957.6, Council will adjourn to closed session to discuss personnel matters. At the hour of 12:18 P.M., the meeting was adjourned to closed session. At the hour of 12:40 P.M. the meeting was reconvened to regular session. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, Mayor Dahl declared the meeting adjourned at 12:40 P.M.
