'y,LS A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING TO ATTORNEY GENERAL JOHN VAN DE KAMP IN SUPPORT OF THE CARL MARTIN MT. SHASTA SKI AREA DEVELOPMENT WHEREAS, for the past five years the City of Redding has been aggressively pursuing a policy of economic development in Redding and Northern California, with the goal of attracting clean and environmentally sound manufacturing- and tourism-related industries to the area; and WHEREAS, Carl Martin' s proposed Mt. Shasta Ski Area Development, as outlined by the United States Forest Service Final Environmental Impact Statement of September 30 , 1988 , which allows for development of Alternative No. 4, is the most environmentally sound proposal for the development of this facility; and WHEREAS, for over a decade, the Mt. Shasta Ski Area proposal has become the most comprehensively studied ski area development in the long history of the United States of America, and has been the subject of exhaustive environmental review by the Congress of the United States, the United States Forest Service, and other leading State and Federal agencies; and WHEREAS, the proposed Mt. Shasta Ski Area facility, when finally developed and operational, will provide urgently needed employment in excess of 850 jobs, attract and generate over $28 million in annual revenue, and provide important seasonal employment opportunities for residents and businesses in the North State; 1 I .. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Redding that California State Attorney General John Van de Kamp, as an elected representative of the People of Northern California, give his unequivocal support to and firm endorsement of Carl Martin' s Mt. Shasta Ski Area Development so that construction of this essential facility can be undertaken in the immediate future.
