A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF MAY 14 THROUGH 20 , 1989 , AS
"NATIONAL PEACE OFFICERS ' WEEK" AND MAY 15 , 1989 , AS "POLICE
MEMORIAL DAY" IN THE CITY OF REDDING.

l WHEREAS , the week of May 14 through 20 , 1989 , has been

I' designated "National Peace Officers ' Week" and Monday, May 15 ,
1989 , specifically named "Police Memorial Day" by both an Act of
I �
II Congress and Presidential Proclamation; and
WHEREAS, this week has been set aside to commemorate all
peace officers, and in particular the 158 police officers killed
in the line of duty during 1988 , of which 21 were from the State
of California; and
WHEREAS, the safety of our citizenry greatly depends on the
1 services of the Redding Police Department, the Shasta County
Sheriff' s Department, and the Anderson Police Department, as well
as the many state and federal agencies that make up the law
II enforcement community;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Redding
it hereby proclaims the week of May 14 through 20 , 1989 , as
"National Peace Officers ' Week" and Monday, May 15 , 1989 , as
"Police Memorial Day" in the City of Redding, and urges

Redding residents and civic organizations to salute this City' s
dedicated law enforcement professionals.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was
introduced and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of

adopted at said meeting by the following vote:
