A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
APPROVING A THREE-MONTH EXTENSION TO THE REDDING
COMMUNITY-BASED TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT PROGRAM GRANT,
THROUGH MAY 31, 1992.
WHEREAS, in March 1990 the City of Redding received a Grant
from the California Office of Traffic Safety (O.T.S. ) to fund the
Redding community-based Traffic Management Program (Program)
through February 1992; and
WHEREAS, the Grant provides matching funds for the salaries
of three Police Officers, two Community Service Officers, and a
Cadet; and
WHEREAS, the Director of O.T.S. has indicated that . the Grant
may be extended a further three months, thus providing funds
through May 31, 1992, in the approximate amount of $30,000. 00;
and
WHEREAS, to obtain these funds, the City will need to
continue to strive in maintaining the goals and objectives
specified in the original O.T.S. Grant; and
WHEREAS, the Program has proven to be effective in reducing
DUI accidents (decreased by 35% during the Grant) ; increasing
seat belt compliance (up over 200) ; and reducing accident
injuries and fatalities; and
WHEREAS, it is the Police Department' s recommendation that
the City apply for a three-month extension to the Redding
community-based Traffic Management Program Grant;
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Redding as follows:
1. The City Council of the City of Redding hereby approves
the filing of an Application for a three-month extension to the
Redding community-based Traffic Management Program Grant, through

May 31, 1992.

2 . The City Manager of the City of Redding is hereby
authorized and directed to sign said Application and any other
documentation in connection therewith; and the City Clerk is
hereby authorized and directed to attest the signature of the
City Manager and to impress the official seal of the City of
Redding thereto.
3 . If funded, Council hereby authorizes the expenditure of
said funds for the promotion for said Program.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was
introduced and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of
the City of Redding on the 18th day of February , 1992, and was
duly adopted at said meeting by the following vote:
