A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY. OF REDDING
SUPPORTING SOBER GRADUATION 1992 AND
THE SOBER GRADUATION COMMITTEE...

WHEREAS, high school graduation is a time of joy and triumph for
students who have put forth tremendous effort to attain. this goal., and.
unfortunately it can also. be a time of tragedy, and.;
WHEREAS, the California Highway Patrol, concerned parents, stu-
dents, school administrators, civic groups and local businesses joined
together to create the Sober Graduation Program to avert these need-
less tragedies, and;
WHEREAS, Sober Graduation has proven to be a highly successful
program since the mid. 1.980' s by drastically reducing the number of.
alcohol and drug related accidents surrounding graduation time, and;
WHEREAS, the Sober Graduation Committee was formed in order to
continue Sober. Graduation Night activities through coordinating coun-
ty-wide fund raising campaigns, providing resources and support for
all area. high schools' Sober. Graduation Night. planning efforts. and. by
promoting an alcohol and drug free lifestyle to students through a.
consistent "stay sober" message throughout the school year - not just
won graduation night, and;
WHEREAS, the Sober Graduation. Night Committee, in concert with
the California Highway Patrol, consists of representatives from the
following local High Schools:
*Anderson High School
*Burney High School
*Central Valley High
*Enterprise High School
*Fall River Mills High School
*Shasta High School
*West Valley high School

WHEREAS, the Sober Graduation Committee solicits recognition and
backing from the community by informing them of the project through
City, County and organizational support of this worthwhile and life
saving program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, 'that the City Council of the City
of Redding hereby expresses its .full. support to the Sober. Graduation
Committee and applauds their tireless efforts to ensure that our youth
"make it to their future" .

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution. was introduced and
read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the. City of Redding
on the 18th day of February, 1992, and was- duly adopted at said meet-
ing by the following vote:
