HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 92-371 - Commending Officer Donald Ostendorf for 20 years of outstanding services as a Redding Police Officer & for contributions to the Community RESOLUTION NO. 71 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING COMMENDING OFFICER DONALD OSTENDORF FOR TWENTY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS A REDDING POLICE OFFICER AND FOR HIS MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY. WHEREAS, Donald Ostendorf was born and raised in Los Angeles, and worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Los Angeles Sheriff ' s Department for eight years before coming to Redding in August 1971; and WHEREAS, Donald Ostendorf began a long and rewarding career as a Redding Police Officer in 1972 , and the special assignment of School Resource Officer in 1973 helped to shape the course of his professional career and personal commitment to the young people of this community; and WHEREAS, Donald Ostendorf, who became affectionately known as "Officer Don" to thousands of school children and adults alike, became keenly interested in the education of youth and began providing instruction to public, elementary, middle and high school children on a variety of topics including drug awareness, child abuse prevention and intervention, and personal safety issues sharing his expertise and experience; and WHEREAS, Donald Ostendorf helped direct school children to recognize important social issues and combat problems facing them on school campuses which directly influence their personal and future professional lives; and WHEREAS, Donald Ostendorf has traveled to schools across America for the United States Department of Education' s Drug Free School Recognition Program and he has been invited to Russia to help with their new schools program; and WHEREAS, Donald Ostendorf ' s personal accomplishments throughout his career include degrees in Police Science, Public Administration and Education, Marriage and Family Counseling from Community Colleges and State Universities, and he has been recognized by many state, local and fraternal orders for his outstanding work with children and by his community with awards such as : *Police Officer of the Year *Citizen of the Year *Public Servant of the Year; and WHEREAS, Donald Ostendorf has been married for 15 years and has raised four children, always finding time in his busy schedule to give freely of himself in service to his community; and WHEREAS, Donald Ostendorf will be greatly missed by those who have benefitted from his knowledge and guidance over the years, and by those who have had the pleasure of working with him.
