A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING DECLARING
THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 4 THROUGH OCTOBER 10, 1992 AS
FIRE PREVENTION WEEK
WHEREAS, approximately 80% of all deaths by fire in the United
States occur in the home claiming the lives of some 4 , 000 people
annually; and
WHEREAS, homes equipped with smoke detectors have a death rate
40% lower than the rate for homes without; and
WHEREAS, about 1/3 of the homes equipped with smoke detectors
in the United States, unfortunately have detectors that are non-
operational due, in large part, to dead or missing batteries
leading to the tragedy of needless loss of human life; and
WHEREAS, all members of the household should be instructed in
recognizing the sound of the smoke detector alarm and know how to
respond; and
WHEREAS, "Test Your Detector - It' s Sound Advice! " is the
theme message for 1992 Fire prevention Week; and
WHEREAS, this week commemorates the great Chicago Fire of
1871, which killed 250 persons and left 100,000 homeless and
destroyed more than 17 ,400 buildings .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of
Redding hereby declares the October 4 through October 10, 1992 as
Fire Prevention Week in Redding.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was introduced
and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of
Redding on the 6th day of October, 1992, and was duly adopted
at said meeting by the following vote:
