A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING DECLARING
THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 11 THROUGH OCTOBER 17, 1992 AS
"AVIATION AWARENESS WEEK" IN REDDING
WHEREAS, on December 17 , 1903, on an airfield in Kitty Hawk,
North Carolina, the vision of two brothers, Wilbur and Orville
Wright, was realized and man learned how to fly; and
WHEREAS, since that time, aviation has played a dramatic role
in shaping the history of our nation and our world; and
WHEREAS, aviation has enabled us to visit the farthest corners
of the world and even the universe through the technology of space
travel, making it possible for people to experience adventure,
history and perhaps a glimpse of what the future holds; and
WHEREAS, since that day at Kitty Hawk, nearly 90 years ago,
mankind has taken gigantic leaps in the field of aviation making it
an integral part of our personal and professional lives; and
WHEREAS, the City of Redding is aware of the remarkable
contributions aviation has made to society and operates two public
airports within its boundaries; and
WHEREAS, Redding Municipal Airport, located east and south of
Redding, offers scheduled airline service, a variety of commercial
services and general aviation facilities; and
WHEREAS, Benton Airport located on Benton Drive on the west
side of Redding caters mostly to general aviation uses, but has
commercial activity as well; and
WHEREAS, Redding' s two public airports offer fine business
opportunity and prime business locations for a variety of
businesses including:
*International Air Services Company ( IASCO)
*Redding Aero Enterprises
*Redding Aerotronics
*Redding Air Service
*Federal Express
*Airborne Express
*American Propeller
*Mercy Medical Center Flight Department
*Hillside Aviation; and
WHEREAS, a variety of governmental agencies also utilize the
airports in carrying out their public service functions; and
WHEREAS, Redding' s business and commercial health is dependent
upon its airports for convenient and reliable air transportation,
currently being provided by United Express and American Eagle.
NOW, THEREF'ORE,' J3 IT RESOLVED, that the �ity Council of
Redding hereby declares the October 11 through October 17 , 1992 as
"Aviation Awareness Week" in Redding.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was introduced
and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of
Redding on the 6th day of October, 1992 , and was duly adopted
at said meeting by the following vote:
