A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
DECLARING SEPTEMBER AS REDDING SYMPHONY MONTH
WHEREAS, the Redding Symphony will open its fifth season in
November with a performance by Norwegian pianist, Trygve Traedal,
in celebration of Grieg' s 150th birthday; and
WHEREAS, this is the second consecutive year the Symphony has
brought a European artist to Redding to inaugurate its season; and
WHEREAS, the Symphony will conclude the 1993-94 season in May
with a gala concert immediately following Rodeo Week and, in that
spirit, will perform Americana music in a festive concert to be
preceded by a country-western barbecue for the community to be held
on the grounds of the Convention Center; and
WHEREAS, the number of community members who have joined to
support the Redding Symphony both financially and through hard work
has increased more than three-fold since last year; and
WHEREAS, the Redding Symphony has become a vehicle for
artistic expression for musicians from Oregon to San Francisco who
join talented Redding musicians in furthering the reputation of
Redding as a center for cultural experiences in the far north
state; and
WHEREAS, the Redding Symphony Association and the Redding
Symphony League are embarking on major fund raising, season ticket
and membership drives this month designed to let the community know
that classical music as it is interpreted by this symphony and its
enthusiastic conductor Maestro John Hess, is fun, exciting and
offers something for people from all walks of life; and
WHEREAS, the Redding Symphony League, formed last year as the
fund raising arm of the Redding Symphony Association, and now
having 55 members, is working hard on bringing the third annual
Candlelight Ball to the community - an elegant extravaganza that
features dancing in candlelight to the music of the Redding
Symphony.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the ,
City of Redding hereby declares the month of September, 1993, as
Redding Symphony Month in our community and commends the Redding
Symphony Association for bringing the cultural experience of
classical music to the citizens of Redding. 1

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was introduced
and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of
Redding on the 17th day of August, 1993, and was duly adopted at
said meeting by the following vote:
