A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER 20-24, 1993, AS "CALIFORNIA
RIDESHARING WEEK 193."
WHEREAS, as the population and the work force of the City of
Redding increase, the need for alternative transportation methods
also increases; and
WHEREAS, the increase in vehicles commuting to and from work
contributes to Redding' s overall traffic congestion; and
WHEREAS, ridesharing—whether in a car, van, or public
transportation--reduces fuel consumption, air pollution, traffic
congestion, and parking needs; and
WHEREAS, the City of Redding, in cooperation with the
California Department of Transportation and other rideshare

agencies throughout the State of California, promotes alternative
transportation in the Redding Area; and
WHEREAS, increased public awareness of the benefits of
ridesharing will help reduce traffic congestion and air
pollution, and ensure a healthier environment for the citizens of
the Redding Area;
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Redding:
1. Designates the week of September 20-24 1993 as

"RIDESHARE WEEK" in the Cit

2 . Encourages all residents to increase their awareness of
the benefits of ridesharing, and practice responsible citizenship
by ridesharing.
3 . Asks that this community join hands with other
1 rideshare agencies throughout California, and celebrate the
benefits of ridesharing to our local and national progress.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was

introduced and read at a regular meeting of the City Council of
the City of Redding on the 17th day of August , 1993 , and was duly
adopted at said meeting by the following vote:

NOES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None
