HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 93-134 - Declaring May 14, 1993 as "Red Rock Day" RESOLUTION NO. 93- A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING DECLARING MAY 14 , 1993 AS "RED ROCK DAY" WHEREAS, the big, brindle-colored, Brahma bull known as Red Rock and owned by John Growney of Red Bluff first began his rise to fame when he became the first bull to remain unridden after 309 attempts; and WHEREAS, on Red Rock' s 310th performance, that record came to an end and history was made at the 40th Annual Redding Rodeo on May 20, 1988, when, before a capacity crowd, the great bull was successfully ridden to the whistle by a young cowboy, the late Lane Frost; and WHEREAS, in an effort to preserve the legend of the World Champion Bull, Red Rock and World Champion Cowboy, Lane Frost ' s historic ride at Redding, a bronze statue of that famous ride was created and is now displayed at the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and WHEREAS, Red Rock' s record of 309-0 in the PRCA is one that will stand for many years to come; and WHEREAS, although Red Rock is now in permanent retirement, his offspring are waiting and eager to prove that like their great sire, they, too, were born to buck. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby declares May 14 , 1993, as "Red Rock Day" .
