A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF MAY 10 THROUGH 15, 1993, AS "NATIONAL PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL WEEK," AND MAY 13, 1993, AS "POLICE MEMORIAL DAY" IN THE CITY OF REDDING. 'I I 'I WHEREAS, the week of May 10 through 15, 1993, has been designated "National Peace Officers' Week" and Thursday, May 13, 1993 , specifically named "Police Memorial Day" by both an Act of Congress and Presidential Proclamation; and WHEREAS, this week has been set aside to commemorate the over 30,000 law enforcement officers slain in the line of duty during the course of American history; and 'i WHEREAS, in 1991 California ranked second in the nation, with 10 peace officers killed; and I WHEREAS, in 1992 over 100 officers were killed nationwide, an average of one officer killed every two and one-half days; and i WHEREAS, the safety of our citizenry greatly depends on the services of the Redding Police Department, the Shasta County Sheriff ' s Department, and the Anderson Police Department, as well as the man state and federal agencies that make u the law Y g P enforcement community in Shasta County; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Redding hereby proclaims the week of May 10 through 15, 1993, as \ "National Peace Officers' Week" and Thursday, May 13, 1993 , as ' I IJ r it I "Police Memorial Day" in the City of Redding; and urges its residents and civic organizations to salute this City' s dedicated law enforcement professionals. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED and directed that all City of Redding I flags be flown at half-mast on Thursday, May 13, 1993, in honor of the police officers killed in the line of duty during 1992.
