HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 93-092 - Giving staff direction in regards to exploring cost savings to the City in its Health Care Program RESOLUTION NO. 93-92 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING GIVING STAFF DIRECTION IN REGARDS TO EXPLORING COST SAVINGS TO THE CITY IN ITS HEALTH CARE PROGRAM. WHEREAS, staff has recently been involved in meetings with various employers in the area to explore the idea of coordinating endeavors in the area of health care; and WHEREAS, staff is making the supposition that the City can achieve greater discounts than it currently receives, and sooner than the reform health care plan that Congress will ultimately pass; and WHEREAS, City Council has been asked to give staff direction in which course Council wishes to proceed in regards to managing the City' s health care program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby directs staff to pursue cost savings to the City by negotiating a "non-exclusive" arrangement with the two health care providers in the area, with the understanding that this option has cost-savings potential. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that staff is hereby authorized to continue informal discussions with Shasta County and other major I employers in the area, but that no formal relationships be established until the precise nature of the federal health care reform plan is known.
