A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
GIVING STAFF DIRECTION IN REGARDS TO EXPLORING COST
SAVINGS TO THE CITY IN ITS HEALTH CARE PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, staff has recently been involved in meetings with
various employers in the area to explore the idea of coordinating
endeavors in the area of health care; and
WHEREAS, staff is making the supposition that the City can
achieve greater discounts than it currently receives, and sooner
than the reform health care plan that Congress will ultimately
pass; and
WHEREAS, City Council has been asked to give staff direction
in which course Council wishes to proceed in regards to managing
the City' s health care program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Redding hereby directs staff to pursue cost savings to
the City by negotiating a "non-exclusive" arrangement with the
two health care providers in the area, with the understanding
that this option has cost-savings potential.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that staff is hereby authorized to
continue informal discussions with Shasta County and other major
I
employers in the area, but that no formal relationships be
established until the precise nature of the federal health care
reform plan is known.
