HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 94-089 - Supporting the Turtle Bay Park & Museum Project RESOLUTION NO. 94- A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING SUPPORTING THE TURTLE BAY PARK AND MUSEUM PROJECT WHEREAS,the concept of developing a world-class museum complex along the Sacramento River in Redding, -California, began four years ago as the need for expanding the Carter House Natural Science Museum, Redding Museum of Art and History, and the Forest Museum, became evident; and WHEREAS, the three museums determined that a joint project held the possibility of creating a complex larger and more exciting than any of the museums could accomplish alone, holding the promise of providing a truly unique cultural, educational and entertaining complex for residents of Redding and the surrounding area, as well as visitors to our city; and WHEREAS, land along the beautiful Sacramento River, near the Redding Convention Center, Turtle Bay Bird Sanctuary and Benton Ranch property provided an ideal location for such a complex in the heart of the city of Redding; and WHEREAS,the City of Redding has provided some sixty acres of pristine public land to be utilized as the site for this innovative and forward-looking project; and WHEREAS,the City of Redding has long been a strong supporter of many diverse cultural projects and programs in our community, including strong support of both Carter House Natural Science Museum and Redding Museum of Art and History; and WHEREAS,this unique project has the potential of drawing hundreds of thousands visitors to Redding each year, where they will support many local businesses that provided services to such visitors and will,therefore, enhance our local economy and provide employment opportunities for our residents; and WHEREAS,the cultural and educational experiences provided through this museum project will be invaluable to our residents, their children and the future generations that have the privilege of living in this outstanding community, and citizens for generations to come will be grateful to the many volunteers who have provided the spirit, vision and effort to bring this project from dream to reality. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding enthusiastically supports the Turtle Bay Museum and Park project and encourages the ` citizens of Redding to lend their support to the worthy endeavor as well.
